8-year-old drowns in septic tank in Mbale

Mbale: In a tragic incident in Mbale, police are searching for a man named Stephen Wandeka, who allegedly left his septic tank uncovered, resulting in the drowning of an 8-year-old girl, Kakai Faith.
The incident occurred on yesterday morning at Kisenyi cell in Malare Ward, Mbale Industrial City Division.
According to the girl’s father, Asadi Magomu, Kakai was on her way to fetch water when she accidentally fell into the septic tank and drowned. Her friends alerted her father, but by the time he arrived, it was too late to save her.
Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson, confirmed that an investigation is underway, classified under reference DEF 017/2024 for suspected drowning.
He stated that once Wandeka is apprehended, he could face murder charges, as locals had repeatedly urged him to cover the septic tank, but he failed to do so.
