30 holidaymakers graduate in computer literacy
He further noted that the program also engages women and learners, encouraging creativity and job creation within the community.
Bukedea: Thirty holidaymakers undergoing computer literacy training at the Action for Development of Grassroots Communities (ADEGCO) in Bukedea District graduated recently.
The graduation ceremony was officiated by Emmanuel Enokokin, the Bukedea District Inspector of Schools. Enokokin emphasized the importance of computer literacy in the modern world, noting that it equips learners with creativity and competitiveness in the job market.
“In today’s era, computers dominate the world. Yet, many schools in Uganda do not teach computer skills, despite it being a fundamental necessity. My appeal to the graduates is to embrace and apply the skills they have acquired,” said Mr. Enokokin.
Joseph Obore, the Executive Director of ADEGCO, explained that the institution is a non-governmental organization focused on empowering youth to address unemployment challenges.
“We designed a special computer training camp to target holidaymakers who lack computer skills. This initiative is part of our broader focus on education and promoting green community practices,” said Mr. Obore.
He further noted that the program also engages women and learners, encouraging creativity and job creation within the community.
Participants were required only to contribute training materials and were awarded certificates of completion upon finishing the one-month course.
John Ilogerit, Local Council One Chairperson of Emokori B Cell in Bukedea Town Council, praised the program for keeping young people occupied and reducing cases of idleness and defilement in the area.
“When children are busy, they are less likely to idle. I truly appreciate this program,” said Mr. Ilogerit.
Ivan Opirizi, a student at Atutur Seed Senior Secondary School and the head of the trainees, expressed his gratitude for the program, noting that the knowledge he gained surpassed what he learned at school.
