2nd Eritrean diaspora investment conference and festival to foster unity and integration

Kampala: The Office of the President, in collaboration with the Eritrean community in Uganda, has organized the 2nd Eritrean Diaspora Investment Conference, aimed at promoting business and investment opportunities while celebrating cultural diversity.

Scheduled for December 21, 2024, at Palace Play Park, Kampala, the event will also include the Beles Bubu Family Fusion Festival.

The conference, themed “Unity Through Diversity,” seeks to build on the success of the first edition by consolidating the achievements and partnerships established among Eritrean investors, the Ugandan government, and other stakeholders.

The event will be graced by Uganda’s Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, and Eritrea’s Ambassador to Uganda, H.E. Mohammed Sulieman Ahmed.

Eritrean community, with a population exceeding 240,000 in Uganda, has significantly contributed over $3 billion to Uganda’s economy. About 25% of this community comprises business entrepreneurs and innovators.

Senior Presidential Advisor on Diaspora Affairs, Ambassador Abbey Walusimbi, emphasized the importance of Pan-Africanism, noting how the conference reflects President Museveni’s call to foster unity and cooperation among Africans.

The festival component, organized by Kisanet Tedros, CEO and Founder of Beles Bubu, will feature a vibrant blend of cultural and educational activities. These include:

Panel discussions spotlighting women entrepreneurs from eight African countries. Traditional dance performances and cultural cuisines. Interactive activities for children, fostering cross-cultural learning and unity.

Kisanet highlighted the event’s goal of uniting diverse families, promoting empowerment, and celebrating cultural heritage. “This is an opportunity to create a future that embraces unity in diversity,” she said, applauding Uganda for providing a peaceful and inclusive environment.

Eritrean investor Kidane Ghebrehawariat Habteselassie expressed optimism about the conference, noting its role in fostering dialogue between the government and Eritrean nationals.

He emphasized the community’s positive contributions, such as foreign direct investments, remittances, and the promotion of tourism.

Sandeep Bugatha, General Manager of Palace Play Park, reaffirmed their readiness to host the conference and festival, inviting the public to participate in this unique event. “From panel discussions to cultural activities, we are set to make this a memorable experience,” he assured.

This event is not just about business; it is a celebration of integration, cultural exchange, and shared prosperity. It offers a platform for Eritrean investors, Ugandans, and other stakeholders to forge stronger ties while promoting a Pan-African spirit of unity and collaboration.
