16 charged for murdering Arua DHO Drileba
Evidence collection is still underway to strengthen the case against those involved.
Arua: Sixteen individuals have been formally charged for the murder of Dr. Paul Bishop Drileba, the former acting Arua District Health Officer.
Dr. Drileba was tragically killed on November 23, 2024, in Oyeku Village, Ombokoro Parish, Ajia Subcounty, Arua District, along with his land surveyor while conducting boundary demarcation.
After intensive investigations, the 16 suspects were formally charged in court on Thursday, December 5, 2024, and remanded to prison.
Due to the gravity of the charges, the case will be transferred to the High Court. The accused are facing charges of murder and aggravated assault related to the violent attack that resulted in the deaths of Dr. Drileba and his companion.
Collins Asea, Police Spokesperson for the West Nile Region, assured the public that the Uganda Police Force, in collaboration with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), is committed to ensuring the case is prosecuted thoroughly. Evidence collection is still underway to strengthen the case against those involved.
“We urge the community to remain calm and let the legal process take its course. The Uganda Police Force is dedicated to upholding the rule of law and ensuring justice for Dr. Drileba’s family and the wider community,” said Asea.
The police spokesperson confirmed that they would continue to provide timely updates as the case progresses.
