14years later, Masindi leaders urge Kinyara Sugar to revive its football club

In 2010, the management of Kinyara Sugar Works Limitted dissolved their football club (Kinyara FC), which was in the then Super League, and compensated the 25-man team.

Masindi: Authorities in Masindi District have called upon Kinyara Sugar Works Limited to revive its support for the Kinyara Sugar-based football club as part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts.

Local leaders argue that the move would greatly enhance sports development in the district, providing a much-needed boost for local talent, particularly among youth and women.

The appeal was made by Mr. Kyetume Kasanga David, the Assistant Commissioner for Information Monitoring and Secretary of the Media Council of Uganda, during the finals of the Kyetume Kasanga David Independence Cup held at Kabango Playground on Wednesday.

Mr. Kyetume stressed the importance of Kinyara Sugar Works resuming its sponsorship of the football club, which could serve as a catalyst for both social and economic development in Masindi.

The call to Kinyara Sugar Works comes against the backdrop of growing concerns about the lack of investment in sports in the district, despite the abundant talent among Masindi’s youth.

Sapline Balyebuga, the LC3 Chairperson, Kabango Town Council, emphasized that the area has young sports talents who lack the necessary backing to make their mark at the national level.

In addition to advocating for Kinyara’s corporate sponsorship, Mr. Kyetume also proposed the formation of a district football team, fully sponsored and managed by Masindi District. He believes this initiative would not only improve the standards of football in the district but also serve as a source of pride and unity for the people of Masindi.
