Nebbi: Police in Nebbi district are investigating a fatal accident that claimed the life of a motorcycle passenger in Acwera/Thidwer village, Orago Parish, Padwot Subcounty, along Pakwach-Nebbi High Way.
The accident happened on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at about 7:40 a.m.
Angucia Josephine, the Police Spokesperson for West Nile Region, has identified the deceased as Kwocwiny Silvia, 14, a resident of Pabelo village, Mbaro West Ward, Nyaravur town council in Nebbi district.
She explains that it involved a motor vehicle number UBB 121K sino truck maroon in color, whose particulars of the driver are yet to be established, and a motorcycle with registration number UFM 577C Bajaj red in color, which was ridden by Rugete Tony, 24, a resident of Jupupio village, Mbaro West Ward, Nyaravur town council, Nebbi district.
It is claimed that both the motor vehicle UBB121K and the motorcycle registration number UFM 577C were travelling from Pakwach to Nebbi.
Angucia said that when the driver reached the Thidwer/Orago junction and was making a left turn, the rider knocked on the rear side of the vehicle, and his passenger fell under the vehicle, which then ran over her.
Police visited, examined, and documented it. They parked the motor vehicle at Nyaravur Police Station, while the motorcycle was parked at Nebbi CPS pending inspection by the Inspector of Motor Vehicles.
The regional police mouthpiece said the lifeless body of Kwocwiny Silvia was conveyed to the Nebbi hospital mortuary for a post-mortem while the rider of the motorcycle was receiving treatment at the hospital.
Meanwhile, the driver of the motor vehicle is on the run.
Preliminary investigations indicate the cause of the accident to be recklessness by the rider of the motorcycle, who failed to brake, knowing that a big truck was turning. Inquiries still continue under Nebbi TAR 23/2024.
