12 district councillors unopposed in Kiryandongo ahead of general election
“Let’s promote unity, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence during this electoral period,” Musingunzi urged.

Kiryandongo: A total of 12 district councillors have been declared unopposed in the upcoming general elections in Kiryandongo District, according to the District Electoral Officer, Mr. Musingunzi Rashid.
The announcement was made during a declaration ceremony held at the Kiryandongo District Tally Center on Monday.
Mr. Musingunzi revealed that Kiryandongo has a total of 33 elective positions, including the district chairperson seat and these include; 13 Directly elected councilors, 11 Women representatives, 2 Workers’ representatives, 2 Youth representatives, 2 Elders’ representatives and 2 Representatives for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs)
Mr. Musingunzi noted that in the last election, Kiryandongo had 9 women representatives, but this year the number increased to 11, showing progress in women’s participation in leadership.
During the event, Musingunzi encouraged women to contest for directly elected councillor positions, not just women representative roles.
“The position of directly elected councillor is open to everyone. It is on record that many women fear to compete politically with men, especially in districts like Kiryandongo. This must change,” he said.
He also congratulated the unopposed councillors and urged them to serve diligently. The unopposed councilors are Kyalisima Justus representing Mutunda Sub-county, Hon. Kilama Patrick representing Bweyale Town Council, Kisembo Deogratious representing Nyamahasa Sub-county, Anywar Patrick representing Diima Sub-county and Akuguzibwe Anet, Female Elder Representative.
Others are Okot Bonny the Male Elder Representative, Amuge Conslet the Kyankende Women Representative, Nyangoma Jennifer the Masindi Port Women Representative, Atimango Jenipher representing Nyamahasa Sub-county Women Representative, Akumu Suzan the Karuma Town Council Women Representative, Mukakamali Anet the Kigumba Sub-county Women Representative and Asaba Kevin the Kichwabujingo Women Representative.
Bishop Okot Bonny, the Male Elder Representative and current Vice District Chairman, appreciated his fellow elders for entrusting him once again with leadership.
“I thank the Electoral Commission and the various government bodies that ensured a smooth nomination process,” he added.
Asaba Kevin expressed surprise at being unopposed, saying “I didn’t expect to go unopposed, but I’m ready to serve and learn more in the council.”
Kyalisima Justus, representing Mutunda Sub-county, thanked the people for their trust and promised to ensure that the local community’s issues are addressed at all government levels.
Mr. Musingunzi also confirmed that only two candidates are contesting for the Kiryandongo District Chairperson seat are Osaga Nelson and Aliguma Edith Adyeeri.
He appealed to both candidates and their supporters to maintain peaceful campaigns and avoid tribalistic language.
“Let’s promote unity, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence during this electoral period,” Musingunzi urged.
